Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel

The objectives:

The aim of starting a candidates' house at Montfort Kombuthooki was a long felt need and project of the Province of Yercaud. This is to introduce and provide on-the-spot mission experience for the candidates of our Province. It is expected that the formees at this stage of formation will inculcate love for the poor and the marginalized society.

Montfort Community School, Kombuthooki is exclusively for the poor tribal children of this region, consisting of 18 villages. It is situated in the interior semi-forest area of Shevaroys Hills, close to the District of Dharmapuri. These villages are too remote to participate in the main stream of life. These village people lack essential infrastructure facility like, roads, bridges, government offices and efficiently functioning schools.

It is expected that the young people at this stage of formation here, will imbibe the Montfortian spirit of love and service for the poor and when they complete their initial stages of formation they will opt or consecrate their time, energy and talents for the holistic development of the poor and outcast.

The beginning:

With these above mentioned objectives, Bro. George Kalangod, the present Provincial Superior of Yercaud Province started the Candidates' house at Montfort Kombuthooki, in the year 2010. The formator was Bro. Lawrence Gabriel, a spiritual and experienced religious, Montfort Brother. He is an expert in Yoga and Indian spirituality.

The inmates:

The first batch of 2010-2011 consisted of Bro. Lawrence, the Master and Seven candidates. The second batch has four candidates, all hailing from the State of Odissa. At present Bro. Jacob Ezhanikatt along with Bro. Lawrence takes care of the formation of these candidates.

Besides the practice of spiritual exercises the Candidates spend their time in sharpening their skills in spoken and written English. They are also given training in soft-graces, gardening, sports & Games. The candidates who are proficient in English are given a few periods of English teaching at Montfort Community School, Kombuthooki.

In conclusion, we would like to wish and pray that 'Jesus, the Lord of harvest, will send more labourers to his vineyard as the harvest is plenty and the labourers are few.
